Swanbourne House School, part of The Stowe Group, commissioned Setter Play to create an enormous play castle for their EYFS and KS1 pupils, with a brief to create a standout structure that also remained muted and natural looking, in keeping with their grounds.
The castle is flanked by an up-and-over playhouse and two twigwams, adding more imagination-play spaces either side of the main adventure-play area.
The play castle’s design included lots of bespoke features, such as the Hogwarts-inspired roof over the castle keep playhouse, and lots of engraving to personalise the structure to the school. The other side of the structure is geared towards adventure-play, with multiple challenging routes up to the 1200mm-high deck. The space is finished on artificial grass with an impact-absorbing shockpad, and a stone foundation beneath that to ensure it remains even and level, with dependable all-weather access.
We’re really proud to have been selected to design and build this scheme, and hope that all of the pupils at Swanbourne House love their new play area.
