Winter is coming.
With less than a month to go until the (official) start of winter, now is the perfect time to prepare your playground for plummeting temperatures and all the other weather changes that are bound to happen this season.
Here, our playground equipment specialists at Setter Play share their top tips on prepping your playground for the colder months.
Provide shelter
There’s only so much you can do when you’re cooped up in the classroom on rainy days.
However, investing in a canopy, or another form of shelter can make going outside more comfortable for your students when it is raining – providing a place for them to sit and chat with their classmates whilst they get some much-needed fresh air.

Generate warmth
The average winter temperature in the UK sits between 2 and 7 degrees Celsius.
Whilst this may sound much too cold for children to be out playing, there are plenty of things you can do to keep students warm when they spend their break time outside.
For example, using thermoplastic line markings is a fantastic way to get youngsters moving – raising their temperatures and ensuring they don’t get too cold.
Our activity and sports line markings include classics like hopscotch, and snakes and ladders. These are not only guaranteed to last throughout the harsh winter (and beyond) with little maintenance, but they’re a colourful addition to make to the playground, too.
Keep on top of maintenance
If you want to keep your play units up and running during the winter months, keeping on top of maintenance is especially important.
This means inspecting your equipment regularly, removing any debris or other obstacles that pose a slip hazard, and keeping an eye on the weather – making sure to de-ice slippery surfaces so it’s safe for your students to use.
